Media enquiries

Official Information Act requests

The Official Information Act (OIA) allows New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, and anyone who is in New Zealand to request any official information held by government agencies - including HPA.

Your request should be as clear and specific as you can possibly make it. Before making a request, have a look at this website as the information you need may already be available.

Requests should include:

  • your name
  • your contact details (email address or postal)
  • details of the information you want.

Requests for information can be sent to:

Email: enquiries@hpa.og.nz
Post: HPA
PO Box 2142
Wellington 6140

How long will the request take?

We will acknowledge your request, usually within 24 hours. We will respond no later than 20 working days after we receive it. Sometimes for large requests or those requiring consultation we'll need an extension – the Act allows for this. If we need one, we'll let you know and give you a specific due date.

We may ask you for further information if we feel your request is not clear. If you are asking for a broad range of information, we may seek to refine your request in consultation with you.

Complaints

If you believe we have not followed the OIA correctly, or you are unsatisfied with how we have responded to your request, you can:

  • contact us and let us know so that we can try to resolve the issue immediately
  • submit a complaint to The Office of the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman will decide whether to investigate and review our decision and may make a recommendation to us.
